After extensive review and compliance with the policies of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and using the assessment outlined in the Healthy Schools Program Framework of Best Practice Criteria, ERCMS is a recognized bronze medal school. The National Healthy Schools Award is a prestigious achievement that celebrates our hard work in creating a healthier school! Award winning schools are recognized as America's Healthiest Schools. |
What kinds of Health & Wellness policies does being an HSP member affect?Well, several things! A few highlights of the HSP policies that affect ERCMS are: 1. Prohibiting using physical activity as punishment and withholding physical education class as punishment, and following both prohibitions consistently. 2. Prohibiting withholding recess as punishment and following the prohibition consistently. 3. Prohibiting using food as a reward and prohibiting withholding food as punishment, and following both prohibitions consistently. 4. All foods and beverages served and offered during the day, during celebrations, and during birthday parties meet or exceed the USDA’s Smart Snacks in School nutrition standards*. 5. Not selling foods and beverages during the extended school day at our school. 6. All foods and beverages served and offered during the extended school day meet or exceed the USDA’s Smart Snacks in School nutrition standards* 7. All fundraising efforts sell only non-food items, or all foods and beverages sold as fundraisers meet or exceed the USDA’s Smart Snacks in School nutrition standards. * = there are only TWO exemptions allowed per school year WANT TO BECOME INVOLVED IN THE HEALTHY SCHOOLS PROGRAM?
